Specify only specific calls as AdWords™ conversions

Tracking the source of each call is great, but to maximize performance, you may want to track only quality calls. Google AdWords™ and other services allow you to determining quality based on call duration; however, call quality is often subjective. Moreover, sometimes you may not know if the call was actually a quality one - e.g., whether it converted to a sale - until some time in the future, maybe days or weeks.

Outleads enables you to attribute calls to your Adwords™ account as conversions only if and when you decide to do so. In other words, with Outleads, you can be selective about which calls truly count as conversions. You can accomplish this in two ways.

Option #1: Record tagging

  1. In Google Analytics™, set up a goal (follow the instructions here).
    • Enter a name that would be meaningful to you, e.g. Phone Call Converted (this will show up as conversions in your AdWords™ account).
    • Choose Event as the Type.
    • In the Action textbox, enter a name that would be meaningful to you, e.g. Converted (this name must match the tag that you will use in your Outleads account - see below).
    • Click Create Goal.
  2. Set up your Goals to import into AdWords™ by following the instructions here and/or here.
  3. In the Outleads dashboard, you can revisit call records and add tags to each call. Apply a tag with a label that matches the name you entered in the Action textbox. Following our example above, when you apply a tag Converted to a call record, it will show in your AdWords™ account as a conversion.

Option #2: Offline conversions import

  1. Follow Step 1 under Set up imports for offline conversion tracking, at this page.
  2. In your Outleads account, navigate to Settings > Export to Adwords
  3. Choose a month and enter the conversion name you used in Step 1 (please note, this is case-sensitive)
  4. Outleads shows each incoming phone call during the time period, along with the date and time. Select which phone calls you’d like to export by checking or un-checking the boxes next to each record.
  5. Click Create Import File. The page will refresh, and you will see a link to a file. Click the link to download the file.
  6. Follow Step 2 under Import your conversions into AdWords in the link from Step #1 to import the file into your AdWords™ account.
